Did not finish book. Stopped at 50%.
Just not for me unfortunately. Neither is the anime, so that's telling.

Well that was hella dramatic and did not let me breathe. Each chapter kept climbing and climbing and climbing and my heart was at my throat because whow, there was a lot. And then the last chapter happened and I was like: why. It felt so anticlimactic from the buildup. Like I know this is supposed to be short, but I wish that there were at least couple more chapters to fit with the drama of the rest of the book.

Lmao, what was that ending!?!!??!?

Okay, I really enjoyed this. I was routing for Nova the whole time and I'm happy about things turned out for her.

But that ending. That is one hell of a cliffhanger! But I believe that Aunt Ivy got better and she got out of hospital and was able to watch Nova perform her first solo and Nova and Beth stay best friends forever and everything is right in the world. I refuse to believe anything else!

I think I enjoyed the ending but that tells us about the real Bessie more.

This is a children's book, that teaches young kids that they can be whatever they want despite what the world is telling them, which I appreciate.

Although it wasn't for me, my niece did enjoy it, and the colouring of the pages. So this is definitely a story that would be important for young kids, especially little black girls who've been told they're not enough by society. Worth mentioning, I think, I love how Bessie's hair was drawn!
