The MCs never really got a break! From the beginning of this story up until the end the FMC was out through it! The story moved fast which I can appreciate but it truly felt like every chapter there was some drama and we never got to see a relationship build between Elsbeth and Thad. She was always getting assaulted by someone. I wanted to like this one. I think this is the first paranormal book by this author and it wasn’t bad at all just wish there was a bit more peace for the MCs.
Thad’s dad was a POS and I’m not sorry about what happened with him but I feel like the last bit about Chepi being revealed close to the end was an after thought and kinda didn’t make sense. For all of the self hatred Patrick had, it doesn’t make sense that he would lay up with a woman like Chepi for as long as he did.
Not a bad story, probably needed to be a bit longer so that the romance feels a bit more organic but if you’ve read Mel Dau then you already knows she gets in and gets out!

This was supposed to be my palette cleanser and now I need a cleanser for my palette cleanser!
I ate this book UP!!
I have never been so disturbed and entertained at the same time!!
This is my first time reading this author and I purposely stayed away from her because they said she writes some crazy stuff and the girls weren’t lying!! This book was crazy!!
The only reason this wasn’t a 5star read for me is because I feel like the ending was a bit rushed and a few things could have been explained more.
This will not be my last read by this author but I’m not hopping into another one of her stories… until I need another palette cleanser

She said it was a short story and she wasn’t lying lol.
I thought this was the perfect set up for this short story series. This was the perfect palette cleanser since I been heavy in Urban Fiction lately.
I can’t wait to read the other ladies stories, the outcome of the remodeled salon and if anything will become of Senae and Neo ( I just feel like there was something there)

I NEEDED MORE OF THIS ONE!!
Yes I know this was a short story but this one just hit home for me and has me in here tearing up and nodding my head.

Lashae is one I hope to see more of in the future (this is anew to me author so if I’m behind in her catalog my apologies)

The ladies in the salon poured into her and I truly hope she heard what they were saying because I did! She doesn’t owe anyone but herself happiness. Trying to make someone else happy above yourself will never work. She can’t live her life for others, not her parents, not Kyle, not Shyna, nobody else. And the reason for Senae choosing braids as her new hairstyle - CHEFS KISS!!!

This short story series was everything and I truly hope the author continues with individual stories for these ladies to a complete novel that features all of them.

Desi is brave for the choice that she’s made. And she made this choice knowing that her friends and family may not understand or even support her but she’s living life on her terms no matter how scary it may be.

I would love to see her new journey fleshed out because I think it would be a beautiful story and inspiring to women who are in the fence of the same choice.
