Mary Ventura and the Ninth Kingdom: A Story by Sylvia Plath
The thing is…
this was honestly nothing special, but I loved it.
It’s also my first Sylvia Plath book.
There’s all this hype surrounding it because she wrote this as a teenager in college.
Actually, I guess it was a big deal back then so nvm lol.
For those of you that have had the pleasure of actually hearing me talk, y’all know I’m a rambler.
I have examples for days.
More often than not, you will almost always be confused until the end.
That’s what this book was for me.
I already know I’m a writer, but this book reminded me that I’m also a storyteller.
I’m not giving a “review” because to understand the point of this extremely short (one chapter if you can even call it that) story, you must read it.

I just realized I never gave my thoughts on this one, and I don’t really feel like doing a full review anymore.
Anyways, I posted a video from a woman on TikTok who mirrored some of my thoughts perfectly (I will send the video to anyone who asks). With that being said: though we follow the protagonist and get a really good world view of how whiteness is perceived; her obsessions however made me want to crash out. A lot of the choices, and the narrative was repetitive. Therefore it was a bit difficult for me, though I was fully invested in the story. I didn’t agree really enjoy the writing style, and look forward to reading something else by this author.
Rating: 4/5…
I saw a review of someone saying this book helped them realize how far they have overcome certain aspects of their own life.
So I would recommend.

This was no Felix Ever After (my fav) but it was definitely cute in its own way. High schoolers falling in love, and learning lost lasting relationship advice. There was a very clear msg from the start. Just because you think something won’t work out in the end, doesn’t mean you have to give up trying. Enjoy it for what it is, and keep learning along the way. That’s how you gain experience. I would have loved a bit more accountability in some of the characters. A little more acknowledgment on what it means to be your own person, stand up for yourself even if everyone else thinks you’re wrong. It doesn’t mean you are…but what am I saying. They’re in HS so whatever lol

On a random day, I decided to visit my local library and found this book. I don’t believe I’ve ever heard of Morgan Harper Nichols before…but I’m extremely glad I found this book. Motivational words, are not alone between these pages. There is also art with every turn. I really loved how encouraging this book was. I am blessed to always find the stories I need to read most, at the right time. It felt as if the author was speaking to parts of me I keep hidden from the rest of the world. I also appreciated hearing her own story written so eloquently; though it wasn’t all sunshine and roses. Lastly I will say, if you’re feeling alone or unmotivated…please pick this up.
