Anytime I watch the movie adaptation before reading the actual book, I typically get bored and lose interest when I sit down and read. I put off reading this book because The Hunger Games trilogy always held a special place in my heart. However after watching the movie, I knew I needed to read the book!
I throughly enjoyed the backstory of how the Hunger Games became the games we saw in Katniss’ story. It was interesting to see the different viewpoints of the Capitol’s people when it games to what the games were and why they existed. Seeing familiar characters and how they became significant to the series was an added bonus.
I was constantly questioning Lucy Gray’s motivations. Did she truly love Coriolanus, or was she just doing what she needed to survive? Although there were moments that I held onto the hope that Coriolanus Snow would actually have a heart, we all know how his character development needed to end. It was really interesting to see his character evolve and eventually become the cold hearted bastard that we saw in the original trilogy. I don’t think I’ll ever recover from Senjanus Plinth’s fate. He deserved so much more, and became one of my favorite characters.
Overall I really enjoyed this book because unlike most, it didn’t have that “happy ending” that we wanted for our most loved characters. It really shed light on people’s moral compass and what it takes to truly survive a world like this.

Definitely one of my favorite books in this series. I loved Stella and seeing Christian’s icy exterior melt around her. Plus, I love a good fake dating trope
Jules is one of my favorite types of characters. She’s witty, beyond loyal to those she loves, and she doesn’t take shit from people. At some points I was annoyed with Josh, but I also think that was the point. They definitely have one of the more fun relationships in this series and I’m all for it!
Definitely giving me The Princess Diaries and my 10 year old self was so happy to see Bridget fight for her right to love who she loves! Her and Rhys’ relationship was adorable from the beginning and I loved the woman power we see in this book.
I love Ava and my heart broke with the events that unfolded in this story. I love how protective Alex is of her, and to see a man as cold and closed off as he is grovel was so enjoyable.
This book was so weird. I was hooked because I wanted to know what was happening, but it leaves it wide open in the end for your interpretation. Normally I don’t mind that, because it keeps me thinking… but honestly I just wanted some clear answers on this one. Definitely has those wtf moments!
