Excellently surprising. Vicariously vindicating. Beautifully written.

This book is so original, funny, and interesting! It set itself up to do so much, but there was very little resolution in the last quarter. I wanted more.

The main character Poppy is unlikeable in exactly the way you’d assume someone named Poppy would be. She’s a pick-me girl in a real “I can’t even keep a house plant alive” type of way.
Her counterpart Alex is numb and boring. They are both emotionally stunted and unimpassioned people. They are friends who have been disingenuous and operate under false assumptions about each other for 13 years. If they’d had one singular real and honest conversation in that entire time this entire book wouldn’t exist. They communicate wholly in bad jokes and deflection. It's maddening. I can't believe I finished this book.
