My rating more to do with how well I think it’s written than any personal enjoyment, as I spent large parts of this book quite angry.

This book was quite charming. Parts of it reminded me of the Wayfarers series by Becky Chambers, but more crass and with a lot more action. I especially found the way translation was done in the early stages of the book to be really intriguing and inventive by the author. I’ll definitely be continuing the series. Biggest complaint however was that the ending felt a smidge rushed and definitely abrupt.

I really want to like this series more than I do. It’s good, it’s well written, it’s creative, it’s fun at times. But I got like 2/3 of the way through this book and my brain was just ready to be done and moved onto the next thing. Still good, still planning to continue with the series, but definitely need a break from it.

It was a pleasure to return to Kekon, to Janloon, to the world of The Green Bone Saga.

This was honestly a fascinating read. Surprisingly insightful into BPD, and helpful in getting a glimpse into understanding some of the reactions and thought processes of BPD individuals. On top of that, a solid and fun mystery with just the right amount of magic and fey.

This was a delight! I was especially surprised by the quality of writing and the variety in word selection, both much greater than what I had come to observe in most YA fantasy books. I felt the first half and the end were phenomenal! It did drag and linger a bit too long in the third quarter. But that’s a minor qualm and my biggest issue. Overall, big recommend!

While not genre-defining of earth-shatteringly good, this was a fun and solid read. Gives me feeling of The Witcher and maybe a bit of Between Earth and Sky. I found the characters quite enjoyable and liked that their personalities largely stayed intact throughout the story. I also loved the representation of characters with disabilities. Will definitely be reading the sequel.
