Flatness and emotional immaturity in  characters is not something I like in an adult novel. Present tense didn’t work for me here—I think past tense would have allowed the whimsical elements of the setting to shine through more (if that makes sense). Mostly, I read this for a sweet, lighthearted romance, but I didn’t like either of the characters and their relationship was boring.
