“Mio caro Giacinto” is an Italian-written Greek mythology retelling of the story between the god Apollo and his beloved Hyacinth. The book draws inspiration from the myths discussed in Ovid’s “Metamorphoses,” deconstructed and rewritten to fit a more modern yet classical, fantasy touch. It reminisces about the Ancient Greek world without necessarily altering its foundational structure.
“Mio caro Giacinto” is a book that will make you cry. I ugly sobbed my way through it, tearing up during both the sad and heartwarming moments. Despite their love, despite everything, you know that Hyacinth and Apollo are doomed to lose each other eventually. There is no happy ending. Despite their love, Hyacinth still dies, and that’s what makes it so painful.
In the book, Hyacinth is depicted as warm as the sun. He is a delicate young man with a kind heart, beautiful as a flower, his beauty enough to captivate not only Thamyris, but also an actual god and an Olympian. He is kind, genuine, and his pain can be felt on your skin. His suffering after the death of Tamiri is so palpable it’s almost suffocating at times. But it’s also his strength and resilience that give you hope. Despite his suffering, he remains the kind-hearted boy he always was. He dares to love again, and he knows that this time, despite what will happen, he will not be forgotten. He will be loved and remembered for the rest of eternity.
“Giacinto amava il sole. E quel sole era riuscito a toccarlo e sentirlo.”
And every spring, he will bloom as the beautiful flower he is, and he will be there, waiting for his beloved on the edge of the river where they first met. 🪻🌞💛

A lot has happened in this last few volumes. I feel we have been introduced to a lot of new characters at once, extremely fast for how the story is evolving and it’s obvious this will be the last arc of the manga. Some bits are very nice written, others kinda lack depth and kinda fell flat. I feel we will have a jump skip in time in a few chapters for sure
Such a nice volume. Things are definitely picking up pace in these last few chapters. Izumo and Shiemi’s friendship is so damn nice to read, more especially Izumo pretty much giving Shiemi the wake up call to confess to Rin. the way chapter 145 ended tho…. Foreshadowing? I swear is any of them die… I’m gonna cry so damn hard
I love the characters and the story, but god the fan service and the misogyny keeps growing and growing in these damn books. I do acknowledge the year they were written in, but at the end of the day we are talking 2011 not the 1980s. Some stuff, innuendos shouldn’t really be a thing. They add NOTHING to the manga itself.
