The main character is too frustrating. It's more of a journey of her losing her mind, after putting up with the background of her crazy mother, and since I have no tolerance for crazy people I did not enjoy this book. It was such a disappointment after reading The Lovely Bones.

After reading this, I now want to go to the circus. Because I don't want to miss out on anything I went on to read the interview with the author at the end of the book. I was surprised to see she had done some of her elephants research at the Kansas City Zoo! Your interest always gets peaked when your hometown is mentioned in a book/news story/article, etc. I also thought she did a good job of developing the character of the elderly Jacob. As someone who works with older people frequently, I could picture this wrinkly old man with those mannerisms and the smart remarks he would spout off to his nurses. Overall, I enjoyed the story and would recommend this book.

I started reading this book last night and just had to stay up through the night to finish it. I'm starting the second one now, definitely not regretting buying all 3 books at the same time. After hearing all the praise for this series, the first book definitely didn't let me down. Can't wait to see what happens next!
