Was I expecting a bit more? Sure. But I think that as a debut it was good enough.
I think what is the biggest flaw is the lack of contextualization, descriptions, elaborations... I feel that the story would benefit a lot if only the time was taken to explain some stuff, describe things, make it easier for the reader to visualize, understand what was happening, what things and people looked like. For half of the book it felt like I was playing catch up and questioning if I had actually missed something. The plot is interesting enough, but it did feel like all of it was only scratched in the surface so it was hard to carry the plot in a more meaningful way. It felt like so much could have been explored more.
The most positive and best thing is the relationship between the protagonists, and their romance it's engaging so it compensates for most of the other shortcomings. Overall a nice read, but definitely one that could have been better because the potential is there so I'll keep reading.

I've tried to read this book for the first time possibly over a decade ago now and back then I simply could not make myself focus or care or understand and so I decided to not read it then as I was not feeling it at all, but I didn't want to give up on reading it because I knew it was something that I would enjoy which is why I kept it on my radar and here I am so many years later and, yes, I was right... I enjoyed this book very much, but surprisingly in ways I didn't imagine it would be so.
