i find the pace in the first half veeeery slow (as it tend to happen with the rest of v.e. schwab's books) but the pace picked up in the second half where everything finally becomes interesting. it might be only for the first book though, bc I can see that the author is trying to web the characters and plots together for it to make sense at first.

as always, v.e. schwab manages to make me fall in love with every single one of her characters, and apparently I still haven't moved on from Kell Lila 😭 I love them so so so much and I'm so happy with the outcome of the first book. there's only very minimal cliffhanger (which I appreciate so much with my whole existence bc otherwise I would've gone mad and foaming at the mouth for the book two).

if you are interested in reading this book, I suggest on reading the first series called "A Darker Shade of Magic" as the main characters there still have major roles in this series and lots of events that happened in the Shades of Magic series were mentioned a lot.

aliens and their advanced technology on earth, a violinist who made a deal with the devil, and a transgender runaway who found home in music. to me it's very unlike the other books that i have read, and I could see the promises in this book, but sadly they were poorly executed that I didn't really feel anything throughout the book.

(it's almost 6am when I finished this book bc I couldn't sleep)
