Really tried my best to sit through and still had to put this down. I don't know why this was such a hard read for me but I just couldn't seem to care about anything going on, even when one of the characters has the whole "actual magic and has been kidnapped" thing going on

Feels like this would be much better if the characters were aged up and not high schoolers. Maybe just me getting too old for generic teen romances. I did feel as though the main character was too controlling and I'm not in the mood to sit through a "will they/won't they" with this man's ex who is way too casual about their breakup

On paper, this is an amazing concept and I was so excited to read this (and thankful for getting an early copy). However, the execution leaves much to be desired. Right off the bat, it was confusing to make sense of what was going on or why things were the way they were. There's not really an explanation of how each of these kingdoms worked or why some decisions within these kingdoms were made. Why did Cade abdicate when he's going to pretend to be his brother anyways and how does no one who has spent time with the two of them in the same room immediately figure out that they aren't the same person? It's not 100% clear who knows and who doesn't know or why they made this arrangement in the first place. Also I feel there were many chapters where the POV switch was unnecessary and we could've learned the same information within the same POV. There could be something great here, just after a few more rewrites and with longer, more detailed chapters.

I've had this book on my shelf for so many years and finally got the motivation to crack this open and see what all the fuss is about and just couldn't grab me. Even paused for a second to try and read Shadow and Bone in case reading that first might make my experience with this better and nope, couldn't read that one either. And if I couldn't finish Shadow and Bone, then I should stop pretending I'm ever going to continue and finish Six of Crows

Let's give it up for bisexual rage!!! This is for those that also would love to shatter the patriarchy and destroy the government. Very happy with confirmed polyamory!!! We need more polyam rep in books.
I love Yizhi and how sure, he's a pretty boy who bakes with fluffy aprons yet is still just as involved and supportive of Zetian and Shimin's violence
