Killer Instinct by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

A bit tougher to get through than the first one, but still very enjoyable. The serial killer on the other end of the glass is certainly unnerving and you can really feel him getting under the characters’ skin. Not as good of a twist revealed as the last book. Still enjoyable and it’s nice to learn more about backstories that aren’t Cassie’s.

Excellent conclusion. The first book in the series to make me truly emotional is the last one of course. Starts off immediately engaging you, bringing you back to the plot that’s been looming in the background all along. Excellent and important callbacks to the Natural’s past cases. You can feel how much the group has learned and changed from the last 3 books. And still dive deeper into each of the Naturals. They get their due attention and bring their value. This book and series is not without its cliché murder mystery reveals, but they’re integrated in a way such that they’re either earned, or don’t incur too much movement to the plot. Do try your best to keep track of the characters introduced in this book, the story told is a bit complicated, but everyone is connected and it comes together really well. The ending is happy without taking away from the consequences. A really good series with a VERY GOOD final installment.

Excellent end to a really good series. Pushes the boundaries of darkness for the YA genre and genuinely creepy at the times it needs to be. For a world with aliens, mutants and super powers, the characters and conflict seem so grounded and real. Heard recently about a sequel series and I do look forward to seeing what else we can do with this universe.
