as a sports stats and analysis loving lesbian who hasn’t read a straight romance in years i am NOT the target audience here. as a romance lover hockey fan stuck in a long car ride with no other book option i decided to give it a try anyway and. well. i confirmed that i am definitely not the audience for this book. definitely not the best written romance novel i’ve read but i’ve also read worse - i’m just not interested in whatever’s going on here. the euphemisms make me cringe as does breezy’s desire to be “owned” by jed. i’m not kink shaming i’m just not into it!
emotional reflective medium-paced

I’m not from a small town but I am a Mennonite deeply involved in my Menno community & family and this book resonated with me so so incredibly deeply. The drawings are beautiful, especially when there’s opportunity for a forest or a wide open prairie landscape.

Interesting ideas presented, but took me a while to finish because the pace was quite slow in a way that did not hold my attention, personally. Of note is that there is no use of quotation marks, which threw me off in my reading at the beginning, but I got used to it quickly and found that it contributed to the strong introspective mood of the book. One thing that did take me out of my reading was some of the sentence fragments. The ending did not quite make sense to me; the last sentence left me feeling dissatisfied and disgruntled.
