this was a deeply dark and scary short story collection that kind of has a theme of sexuality and body horror. i had a surprisngly good time with this (this was recommended to me by stephen at aliented majesty books when i asked for trans horror. happy to say he didnt disappoint)

my favs were the titular short story, and me and mona at the table

i liked this more than i thought i would. i enjoyed the audiobook format, but i def think the perspectives should have been cut down. i thinking reading this as a teenager would have been way more impactful but i still found value from reading it as an adult. def made me think about various things

i loved loved loved LOVED the world introduced in this book. however, the plot, characters, relationships, writing? its crazy how long the book is yet everything beyond the world felt incredibly flat and lifeless. i think i would like this better on a second read and i may do that in the future and then move on to the second book, but i was honestly pretty disappointed

I want to say, I think this is maybe a 4-4.5 star book, but i listened to the audiobook under perfect circumstances

I listened to this audiobook with my sister while taking a 3 hour roadtrip each way during the summer to see MCR. we barely talked the entire time because we were just listening to this book! like everyone else said, the audiobook was amazing (and im not the biggest audiobook fan). it was super immersive. and honestly, this is a book I feel like benefited so much by being written by a woman. I love how every woman in this book is written to be a true girls girl too. so if you have a long road trip to see a concert by any chance- this is the book to put on
