as a beginner to any sort of linguistics and cultish language this was a great and easy read!! mlm portions were my fav because i now have more to challenge my relatives involved in mlms with :|
- first 10ish chapters were so hard to get through… almost dnfed - but wah. subsequently the story rly got into the meat of things and made up for it - so lush and atmospheric, adored the descriptions of environment and greenery - also uncertain and open ending but it rly does work in the favour of the book - unsure ab the “romance”? that happens with the main character but i suppose with how complex events took place and her trauma. things aren’t supposed to feel ordinary or understandable to others, especially as she still wields anger and resentment for all that she went through (also didn’t like the implication by characters that she needs to move on. she has every right to feel hatred and to me it felt like her pain wasn’t validated enough)
must read imo!! sg’s system isn’t exactly the same as the uk’s, but given how we inherited it this was still a very relevant read. took me quite a while to get through it (esp the front bit, with the attention paid to the workings of the systems present) but many thoughtful points were made about criminal justice and victims that slip through the cracks
overall interesting, but quite meh. glad that it ended tbh just wanted to figure out what the mystery behind the law firm was, and i was ready for it to end after. ALSO the audiobook is weird bc it’s just the same guy speaking for each character 😭
