Enjoyed it well enough up until the last chapters, which were just inexplicable.

Applying to grad school in one evening? Talking about studies as they would be automatically accepted? No mention of finances? The author very obvs have no idea how PG studies work in UK. 
But more than that - throwing out the bottle????? A historical artifact????? No historian would ever do that. It's unhinged!!!!!
