I have The Strain by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan on my TBR and this was a good chance to see if their writing is for me before investing time and money in a full length novel.
Del Toro and Hogan do a great job with the storytelling and atmosphere in so few pages. I was so keen to get to the next story because each story finished at such a good point. The characters were written very well in the small page count, but done so well that it was very easy to get invested in them.
Random note: While the plot is not the same, these stories gave me similar vibes to the movie Dog Soldiers.

I'm up to date with Reacher again (until the paperback for In Too Deep comes out in March). I generally always enjoy jumping back to when Reacher was in the army and this was no exception. This was a good addition to the series and takes us back to around the time that Reacher was demoted from Major. I enjoy seeing the differences in how young Reacher responds to scenarios and comparing it to how current day Reacher might respond.
This is the third and final short story by Robert McCammon I'll be trying for now. The three that I've tried all seem like they could be part of the novel but nothing really stands out in any of them.
Not a single thing about this book was engaging.
