really loved this! read this on halloween and it was a perfect spooky read.
I can’t stop thinking about how this would make a great full size novel, rather than a short story. I enjoyed it so much I wish there was more!

I thought I would like this book a lot more than I actually did.
The pacing drags, it only gets good around 60% in. The book is extremely graphic and brutal, and a lot of the fight scenes were repetitive.
There isn’t any character development, you meet the characters as they are and stay that way the whole way through. There isn’t any individuality amongst all of the many side characters. The 3 main characters and their storylines are interesting enough, though I found myself really only caring about Orka’s in the beginning, then slowly Elvar’s nearing the 60% mark. The last 100 pages were really good, and I wish the beginning was written with the same pacing as the last 40%.
I absolutely love all of the creatures that are in this book.
John Gwynne writes some really badass women characters, and I will be continuing the series
