i don't know..it's so short but feels so effective because of it. looking at it more as a point where conversations start instead of an encompassing representation of identity or as having a fixed moral standpoint makes this so interesting to me. the book ending immediately after the 'mercy killing' without any real discussion occurring about the act other than the characters' immediate responses (acceptance, indifference, guilt, grief), the way death and morality r addressed while also somehow being cast aside, the degrees of isolation every character seems to suffer from (for varying reasons)there is so so much here, almost want more but i don't think i would like this nearly as much if i actually got it.
also trying Not to criticize it from my place in time but some of the characterization n language was still, inevitably, uncomfortable to read, more so here because of how much it has to do w the story's development!
in a surprise turn of events literally no one saw it coming i DID cry

want to call it unreal but it's not this is exactly what it feels like to be in the garden, summer heat almost stifling making all the colors more vivid more than ever, especially because of the knowledge it'll all be gone soon, until next time. this is what i mean when i talk about finding god in the garden—in the green!
and biggest thank u to the matins and vespers(i did cry 3 poems in)
*read sitting outside on the swing, the sky was already turning from bright blue to muted pinks and purples, just after the blinding gold, it's still so hot but they were tending to the garden and cutting the grass (so the smell of the petals and grass took over completely) and i can never resist joining, i couldn't imagine a more perfect place to meet with this book
✧ favorites: violets, switchgrass, the white lilies

added to the list of books that make me feel like ive never read anything before in my life
was written for me personally just!!! can't even describe how it felt getting to know them again, in another way, thru their own voices recounting the steps they took to get here(steps, if i can b a little conceited, i walked alongside them). they r so irreplaceable to me im ever grateful for all that they share n the bits of themselves all the kindness n unclouded optimism they hold onto while doing so. i hope the world never hardens their soft edges.
(don't need to rate this rly, timeline that felt like a skipnhop down memory lane w quotes from the ppl i love most, rly should b 5stars just for the blended chicken and grape juice meal..unreal)

so obviously important but started to feel tedious near the end! will admit i did cry at some of the instances of 'destruction beyond repair' .. but i can't tell if it's carson that did it or our indifference to suffering being made apparent
not rating bc i so closely associate this with high school ! and think that might b why i felt like i was reading a textbook
