I loved this book a lot, I love the way it’s heavily inspired by Asian folklore and culture and it was enjoyable to read but I will say massive TW for sexual assault, violence against women, and slut shaming. Tho I do wish some of the characters where a bit more developed and the relationship between Wren and Lei. I will add this as well, I remember reading some of the reviews under this book saying how it was ‘unoriginal’ and ‘fell into a lot of clichés’ here’s the thing, there’s technically no such things as something being ‘completely original’ because everything is influenced by something and can be compared to something else or anything similar, the only exception I could make for this is that it feels like copy and paste but then that would probably fall under plagiarism and with other legal issues. Point I’m trying to make is that I don’t like that criticism since everything is influenced by something or someone. I do look forward to reading the second book soon.

Did not finish book. Stopped at 18%.
I can’t finish this book for the reason of its Hispanic representation, especially since it really rubs me in the wrong way, like the way they randomly speak Spanish with no real reason, I do the same thing but it’s mainly with my Hispanic friends, plus I don’t feel like I could really get into it either I just can’t. It’s definitely not for me especially in terms of Hispanic representation

I can’t see myself rating this book anything less than 5 stars since I heavily relate to a lot of things talked about this book, especially when it comes to living in the US as the child of immigrant parents and having to deal with the racism and other things that comes with being POC, I can’t say much on the topic is Islamophobia since my family isn’t Muslim but mainly on the experiences of being an immigrant child in the US and trying your best to not disappoint your family and wanting to be better

I love this book so much like, it’s so beautiful to me it made me tear up a couple of times, though I do feel like this book was a bit cheesy especially with some characters referring to each other with full names, it was a quick and fun read for me and I’d like to see what else the author writes

I liked the book overall and I got into it because I had watched the anime and wanted to read the source material and I feel like I prefer the book over the anime as I feel like the anime was a little too gory in my opinion but I enjoyed both of them, but I wish there were some explanations on certain things and some characters being a bit more fleshed out
