50 Shades Of Grey Review By Sunny

(P1) I rate this a 1. Mostly because of its cringey scenes and descriptive words used in said book. Overall Christian needs a better therapist and a want to get better. To understand that he does indeed have horrible trauma and past issues he needs to talk through and to try to be at least an overall better person or try to have better communication skills. Then to Ana….Oh dear where do i start. She’s written as the average early 2000’s ‘I need a man to save me’ type of women. Even though she has no past relationship experience only the experience of her mother not being able to commit to a marriage. Which is a good reason as to why she originally fell in love with Christian and still wants him dearly. Doesn’t change the fact she’s roughly 24 and compares herself to a child many times (p2) and it disgusts me many times throughout this ‘book’. She’s feminized in a way a 9th grade girl would be over a 12th grade boy. It’s uncomfortable and unsettling. He uses her unique uncertainty to the contract and what he needs against her. Literally. Against her, physically. She doubted herself many times and each time she gives in because that’s what she wants. Even when she asks for space but starts to question that he pushes through and pretends she never asked for space at all. It angers me how much he expects from her but won’t give the same. I will not read the other books. I have watched all the movies once. Never again. To all the moms out there who are in love with this book. Please look into therapy. I have a mom who romanticizes abuse and trauma and it’s not fun. Please try to understand this book is toxic and not needed for teenage girls looking for a way to be ‘older’ in the same way I did. In fact, I grew up too fast and books like this absolutely did not help.

(P2) I will put quotes in this paragraph.
“..’..Ana just call him’ she snaps and hangs up. She is bossy sometimes. I frown at my cell, sticking my tongue out at it.” Pg. 33 - Why is she a literal 14 year old girl. It’s just cringy to me, is all.
“..’Okay, we’ll see you there.’ I am all gushing and breathy- like a child, not a grown women who can vote and drink legally in the state of Washington.” Pg. 35 -I promise she compares herself to a child many, many, many times in this book.
“..‘I’m more of a converse and t-shirt kind of girl…” Pg. 56 - example on how she is the most average early 2000’s written girl (yes I know this book was written in 2011)
“…He notices my dizziness and grabs me before I fall and hoists me into his arms, holding me close to his chest like a child..” Pg. 61 -This is after she realized she has an interest towards him and she gets drunk. What’s the reason? To also state it’s written on the same page before this “he sounds like a middle-aged man scolding me like an errant child.
“…What is his problem? Apart from a silly drunk girl calling him in the middle of the night so he thinks she needs rescuing.” Pg. 63 -She knows her own stereotype in this book and calls herself out for it, yet doesn’t learn from it.
“…,He looks yummy.” Pg. 63 - just had to quote this because it’s so funny. Girl, you just freaking met this weirdo.
“…’You didn’t eat, you got drunk, you put yourself at risk.” Pg. 67 - She’s a brown adult about to graduate college??? Are you her dad???
“My hormones are racing.” Pg. 68 - I find this usage of the word extremely disturbing and cringey. As someone who had a ‘Wattpad’ phase…still grossed me out physically each time I read it. (And yes, I am dramatic.)
“Does he white-slave small children to some godforsaken part of the planet?” Pg. 74 - huh
