Bone by Fae Myenne Ng

One of my favorites novels. Deals with issues or diaspora, immigration, and culture in such a beautiful and delicately written way.
What hooked me into this book, and what makes it one of my favorites, is not the plot but the writing. Every chapter is filled with phrases and sentences that stick with me to this day.
I highly recommend reading this book and unpacking the writing style.

Nooks & Crannies by Jessica Lawson

Nooks and Crannies took me by surprise, written as a children's mystery novel, I found it more entertaining than some of the adult mystery novels I've been reading, and dropped, recently.
It felt very fresh and fun to read because it had a great balance between suspense and surprise.
I finished this book in only a few days; I was very curious to know how the events played out and how the mystery would be solved in the end.
Although some aspects were easy to foretell, it was still enjoyable to see them play out. For me, the characters really made this novel. Tabitha and her animal sidekick Pemberley were a perfect combo for this mystery.
While dealing with the plot of suspenseful mystery, it also dealt with children's emotions and the human need to be loved by family and friends. I loved how it touched on this topic, through a relatable and fun main character who ends up using her smarts to solve the mystery. Along the way, we the audience root for Tabitha because of the connection we have with her. The audience understands Tabitha's struggles and despite her inner struggles she uses her smarts to unpack the mystery at the manor.
