The books was very informative of vietnamese history, discusses about racism, immigrants parents; the struggle to appease parents and meet expectations. Due to this I related heavily with both the main leads, especially the female lead. I also liked the romeo and juliet trope in the book.

However, I felt there was an imbalance between informative and storyline..where I lost interest quickly and began the skim read near the end.

The book is an easy read, there were moments which made me feel emotions of shock, blush and smile.

However, the descriptive writing sometimes threw my interest off..I also felt that something was missing..like a spark which was there in the first book.

I enjoyed reading this book and definitely recommend to others.

Pros :
💫I felt the emotions that characters felt e.g. blushing, sadness and anger; could envision scenes in my head.
💫You could sense the main characters chemistry and their love for each other.
💫Resonated with the female lead.

Cons :
📉Sometimes the book did drag and made me lose interest.
📉I found the female lead sometimes annoying, I became frustrated with some of her actions / decisions.

Great Storyline, places a dark take on fantasy concept, includes secrets and plot twist. I could sense characters emotions and really enjoyed that the female character Jude is the opposite of damsel in distress...she is a warrior..a fighter..

Sometimes the book did make me lose interest, I understand the use of descriptive writing but sometimes I felt it was too much.

Discusses important topics like family, mother son relationship, war, trauma, identity, immigration politics, LGBTQ. As a child of immigrants, I was able to resonate with main character. Also it is very easy to read.

Story drags, lost interest sometimes. I also dislike the writing style.

Great take on Cinderella story, taking a darker route. The book includes modern topics like LGBTQ. I also sensed characters emotions.

I would have loved to see more detail like pov of what happened to different characters in certain situations. I also felt some scenes were rushed, unnecessary scenes were also added.

The book discusses important topics like depression, suicide, grief, bereavement, death, abuse and love; in particular showcases grief stages. I could sense characters emotions by resonating with them.

However, sometimes the book drags, that I either become confused or lost. Also feel like was introduced to constant new unrelatable information.

It discusses topics like reintegration into society, grief and mental health. I could sense characters relationship through sensing emotions. I did not enjoy writing style, but it was creative.

Sometimes I lost interest and there was a lack of build up towards the ending : it felt rushed near the end. As well as this, sometimes the storyline was predictable.

The story discusses important topics like suicide, depression, toxic household. I was able to sense characters emotions and resonate with the female lead, in terms of mental health.

Sometimes the book became slow paced, where I did not know what was happening : lost interest couple of times. I wished there was more build up to the big secret. Also I don't understand why the male lead's background information was showcased near the end...it would have been better at the beginning or the middle.

The book is easy to read, the writing style captivated me; I sensed the characters emotions..I adored the chemistry between the main leads and could genuinely feel the love. I also enjoyed the character development in particular in Achilles before the war to during the war. I resonated with main lead Patroclus through father-son relationship...of never being good enough.

However, the story did drop new side characters without introduction.
