i wish she would have slapped sasha and the ceo just once. idk i didn’t really care about cassie and any other character in the story. i felt sorry for certain situations she was in but that was it. i don’t think any character or storyline was explored the way i personally wanted it to.
it does a good job of highlighting the impending doom most people feel though. it got a little too real at some points in the story and it made me think of my own worries LOL and that wasn’t the mood i wanted to go for. but then again i guess that was the point!
overall it was an easy read/listen!

this book made me realize i don’t really like when books are set within the last 5 years, for fiction at least. her husband was getting canceled on twitter and the mentions of mask wearing was kinda cringe to me for some reason but again thats just personal preference. the build up was interesting as far as the case went but i really didnt care about bodie’s personal life and relationships, but with that being said i felt like the build up led to nothing. if it was trying to comment on the justice system i think it did that to some extent at least

always in awe of writers who are able to write such compelling stories about everyday life and relationships. i think this book is a perfect example of the many ways in which women experience and give love. if i can't convince people to read the whole thing i'd at least tell them to read "xin chao, xin chao". a song from afar and the secret were also my favorites from the collection.

i really wanted to like this story but i didn't feel like it went anywhere? the entire thing just felt like the protagonist's inner monologue, which was interesting at times and i do like her writing style but i felt like it dragged on for too long. she talked so much about kostas, maria, and stefano as if they were going to be significant towards the end but there was no tie in at all. i'm not mad i read it tho i just wish the ending was more satisfying :(

not a big horror person so this was the right amount of "horror" i was willing to consume. it's more unsettling than it is horror to me. i'm glad i picked it up it was a quick read.

i thought it was a good read to get you out of a reading slump but other than that i don't think this style of writing was for me. it felt too much like fanfiction, which i love, but i've read much better on ao3. i did appreciate parts of the story that dealt with grief & loss. i also think gus is annoying as fawk omg.

although i prefer her novels this was still a nice, quick read which is what i needed at the time. i wasn't particularly moved by any of the stories and characters but i really do appreciate yoshimoto's surreal and calming writing style. i liked the last story the most.
