“A simple life with people I love. That’s all I’ve ever wanted”
Sometimes our stories aren’t that simple.
This story follows Clara and Benjamin, mostly, and their versions of the last 20 years. The moment they met as young adults, the night that ruins everything, the paths they take, and their unwavering love for each other.
Their love story began somewhat immaturely, but it’s to be expected at that age. Clara and Benjamin both have strong insecurities that at times make them unbearable to deal with, but it’s hard not to relate at times to those feelings.
Then a night that shouldn’t have ruined their future planned, but did, sends them in completely different paths for 20 years. In times of sadness, celebration, or even mundane life events - they never seem to let go, having sent numerous emails over the years just to check in or reach out in some way.
With little interjections of other parts of their lives, this story was a wonderful example of two people who fought hard to give each other the life they thought the other deserved, without taking into account what was best for themselves.
And it’s about second chances for not just love, but for yourself. Remembering that you can have a second chance at life, at a career, at love. Just let go of what holds you back and live the life you want. ❤️

"An earth shattering secret. A life-changing love story."
Wren visits her father and his family in the US for the summer after the devastating realization that her fiancée was in love with someone else. Anders lost his wife 4 years ago and despises the idea of ever trying to move on.
Through friendship and forgiveness their worlds inevitably collide. This book takes you through multiple avenues of love (friendship love, romantic love, sibling/family love) and learning how to live the life best suited for you.
Anders completely stole my heart from the moment we met him. There is just something about dark, broody handsome men that immediate draw me in! Probably because like Wren, you just want to make them whole again. His dedication to his family and ultimately his wife was remarkable to say the least, and I struggled not being able to reach through the book and hug him sometimes.
Wren is insecure at first, but overtime you can almost picture her blossoming into this new lifestyle on the farm that seems to suit her. By the end, I was audibly cheering her on for using her voice to have her own back and claim the life she knows is right for her.
This was my first book by Paige Toon, and I couldn't be happier with my choice! An absolute treasure for those who love stories of broken hearts finding each other and mending them together.

My heart is actually broken. This one will stay with me for so long.
Ariel, I don't even have the words to explain all of the feelings this book gave me. But thank you, for writing this.

This story encompasses so much; friendship, obsession, betrayal, mental health…..the list goes on.
You are immediately sucked into the lives of Liz, Sami, Mo, and Amy, as they navigate life inside and outside of their foursome. Once a bond stronger than anything, never letting anyone hurt one another, it depicts the fierceness of a friendship everyone needs in life. But as they grow closer to adulthood, the cracks in their friendships and within themselves start to show.
I’d be silly to go long without mentioning my absolute adoration for Mo. Not sure how many mixed feelings people will have on her, but I felt like she was the realest one. There is something refreshing to me about a brutally honest friend, who will go to the ends of the earth to protect me. Mo’s story was important to tell, because it is the perfect example that “money doesn’t buy happiness”
Overall, the writing was outstanding. Shannon did an amazing job at character development and keeping up with bouncing between years and povs.
The end fell short to me. It was sort of an abrupt closing to the story, to all of their stories. However, I am still very pleased with the book itself and would recommend!
