Author tells instead of showing, all the characters talk the same way, lazy character development. The whole thing felt like a first draft. The author seemed to also change her mind on Doug halfway through. Annie didn't even earn her independence, she just had a bunch of stuff happen to her. Ugh. What a flop BOTM choice
