Widow in Emerald by Scarlett Peckham

This is a short story and I think it’s done well. Predictable but the writing is good.

I’m so sad this book is over. It was perfection. The interactions of the characters was perfect. The pacing was perfect. The way their relationship developed was perfect. The pining. Perfect. And the lessons trope was done perfectly. A+

Sweet novella. I appreciated how the fmc’s autistic experience was described. I wish I could have known more about the MMC
How To Train Your Human Omega by Arden Fox

The plot was interesting but the pacing felt off and I found myself a little bored. I also wish we had gotten more backstory for the characters. Why weren’t there many Aldar omegas? Why could clay be recognized as an omega even though humans didn’t have designations? Why was clay so commitment adverse? Why was Arcay a virgin? Were all unmated Aldar alphas virgins?
There was a lot of descriptions about what clothing clay was given to wear and what the ship and the planet they went to for like 2 mins looked like. I wish more time had been spent on developing the characters.

Ew. This book was cringe, and not in a good way. I did not like Vaughn at all. Basically anything out of his mouth made me say “ew yuck.” We get it - he’s a cat. He’s feral. He likes being petted. Ew, enough. Also, consent is sexy; everything Vaughn did to Faith and all the ways he ignored her “no’s” made me really uncomfortable. This book would have been a DNF for me except that I liked the first book pretty well, and everyone says this series is so good. The bits of plot that happened were cool. I’ll probably try the next one because they’re on hoopla and I need something to listen to while I’m working that isn’t too hard to follow while I do other things

This was very sweet. I was hoping for more of the epistolary aspect - I don’t love when they write letters and not send them. But the character development for both characters was so touching. And any love for Tamora pierce, I’m here for!

Give me all the epistolary romance!!!! Maybe my favorite book of the year so far. Maybe one of my favorite books of all time. I loved this book so much.

I liked this a lot! I thought this was a really well done example of falling in love with the grumpy one syllable grunting mmc. I feel like too often the fmc falls for that type of guy without them ever really having any sort of communication and I feel like “really? You don’t even know him!” But this was a sweet story and seeing Travis open up was nice. Didn’t love the miscommunication trope at the end, and first person present tense not my preference for a story to be written in. But all in all I really liked the characters and enjoyed reading this

This books was sweet. I loved the evolution Kit went through, especially. And since we didn’t get is pov (except for one chapter at the end) it was even more fun to see his actions change and not being privy to his thoughts. I also loved that he didn’t push Margot or feel defensive and rejected by her when he declared his feelings for her and she didn’t immediately reciprocate. Gotta love a self confident hero! Also “Margot mine” is such a cute pet name!!
