The book is a short collection of meaningful poems. Warsan Shire writes beautifully, she addresses immigration, war, and domestic violence and rape (trigger warnings) in a super dark way, it will break and heal you in equal measure.

Kamala Das's My Story takes you on a journey from her being a little child born to parents who had unhappy marriage to a 15-year old who gets married to a man older to her, bearing three sons. The reader tends to get older with her as she narrates her story laced with love affairs, religious references, her affection towards her ancenstors, discrimination and much more. She holds your hand firmly and you enjoy bits of her life in the whole book.
