Loved Nellie, Alice is unsufferable. The last 25% of this book was a mess.

I knew 20 pages in that this wasn't my vibe, but I'm trying to diversify my reading and also there is a hot merman so I pressed on.

This book is an overload of adorablely earnest cheese and sensuality, with a little sprinkle of magic on top. It's personally not my taste, but I am sure the author will continue to refine their craft for their core audience.

I read this book because I loved the movie, and I must say that the movie definitely delivers on the premise better. The prose was sharp, but I felt like the plot dithered. The ending especially felt lacklustre to me.

I'll definitely watch the movie instead if I ever want to revisit this story.
