I appreciated the character backstories but the pace was too slow for a light novel.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. A lot of the concepts can also be seen in the “conscious parenting” movement - primarily, being calm around your child and not letting your own frustration escalate a situation. I appreciated how the author showed how she incorporated principles into her own family, and how they helped her bond with her child.
A big limitation of many of the concepts she discusses is cultural. As the author notes in one of the last chapters, so many of these concepts are doable because families have a village of people around them who help to care for the child and guide them in the same fashion. It may feel defeating to try to implement these strategies without much support.
To my fellow perfectionist moms: this book is great, but don’t beat yourself up when you can’t implement everything. You are already loving your kid well and doing a good job. 💜

I loved Steven Fry’s version of the retelling - I just kinda hated all of the characters themselves 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m reminded again why I was never able to get into Greek mythology.

Meh. I have a hard time enjoying memoirs of aristocrats who seem out of touch with the lives of normal people.
