A good YA, but prefer her adult books like the Brown sisters

Enjoyable, characters and their relationships develop well

Glad I read it. Brianna had some rough times in there, and it was good to learn some more about when the USWNT was on the way up

This was an interesting mystery with subplots of romance! I think personally I would have like more background on the main characters, because I felt a little lost for a part of the book, but overall it added to the intrigue. With that, I think it was a solid adult debut, and I want to learn more about the characters. I found some of the transitions from mystery to romance a little forced or rushed, but it very possible I missed context clues that the author provided. Overall, this was entertaining!

I enjoyed this book! It has a spin on fake dating, where the characters go on "dates" for one of the characters to teach one (Toby) about love in exchange for the other (Catie) to get lessons in Mandarin, her first language that she's lost over time. I think there's important family themes, and being your authentic self which are always important. I felt for the characters and their difficulties, and I thought the character growth was valuable and deserved.

lighthearted

This was an enjoyable book! I found Rose well crafted, and appreciated the depth in her character. I admired her support system, and I'm a sucker for a enemies-to-lovers trope. I think aspects of Rose were very relatable. The rest of the group, including William, are all characters I would love to know more about.  Overall, this was a lighthearted romance and I enjoyed the gaming focus of the book.
