With a Little Luck by Marissa Meyer

This book was super cute and I really did enjoy it, but I think unfortunately it was not the best match for me. As a YA book lover I feel like this one read a few years younger than the main character age was (more like middle school level instead of junior year in high school). The medieval moments and D&D talk were slightly distracting for me and I’m not sure why, also I really wanted more of the record store aspect of the book.

All and all the book definitely sticks very close to the synopsis/book blurb, WHICH IS A HUGE PLUS FOR ME, and the problem was definitely mine and not the books. Also while i read the book via audio and on my kindle I reallllllly loved the audiobook. I was able to listen at it at 2x speed and the narrator was impeccable and really embodied the role of the main character.

I really really loved the journey that was this book!!! I am usually not a slow-burn lover, and especially not a supernatural/speculative horror/mystery thriller lover because I find that it’s usually done “cheaply” at the end to just “tie up loose ends” but this author really did this book right!!!! Piece by piece was laid out and as the reader we are apple to come to our own conclusion come the end of the book!

Audiobook wise I loved this narrator (Emma Galvin, and I look forward to listening to her in more audiobooks in the future) and was able to listen at 2x speed and even though it was 11 hrs and some change long it FLEW BY!

This book was utterly 🍌🍌🍌 in the best way! What a fun rollercoaster of emotions and just the perfect amount of drama! Some of the ICU scenes dragged on a bit but in the end the wait was worth it!!!!

This book was 👩🏽‍🍳💋everything I want in a thriller and more❤️ Very psychologically thrilling and had me shocked multiple times!!! The similarities/mirrors between Stella’s past and Rose’s present were done impeccably and I loved the tie in!!

Here are the vibes:
✨A wealthy multi-generational family living under one roof
✨An affair with the nanny
✨Suspicious death of said nanny
✨Divorce with a child custody battle
✨A Best Interest Lawyer with a past
✨A now mute (possibly homicidal) creepy child
✨…AND MUCH MUCH MORE

This was soooo fun to read and super exciting that I can only imagine how cool and thrilling the audiobook would be!

Definitely look out for this one when it comes out!!!

I wanted to love this book with every fiber of my being but unfortunately this book didn’t live up to the wonderful hype that was Such A Fun Age. I’m not sure if this was another case of the “Sophomore Slump” or another categorizing mishap, but this book leans more towards a lit-fic character study with a little mystery incorporated instead of the mystery thriller that it was pitched as. Most of the characters were either super bland and boring or so annoying I wished they didn’t even exist in the story.

I will forever love the writing of Kiley Reed, and her literary voice. And will most  definitely be giving her third book a read. I’m just chocking this one up to this particular book didn’t work for me, but still a huge fan! Also I absolutely loved this cover so there’s that.

If you were wondering if I loved every second of this; American meets a Royal (who is the next in line to be King), they fall in love, get engaged, AND a plethora of delicious hi-jinx ensue kind of book…WONDER NO MORE. I loved it!

I especially loved listening via audiobook because 1.) The narrators were perfect and 2.) Reading in a discernible British accent (in my head)…is not a part of my (very large, might I add😉) skill set 😂

This book was the epitome of a claustrophobic thriller!!! Every chapter that went by I got increasingly more absorbed into the story and kept listening because I NEEDED to know what was going to happen!

This audiobook and its narrators were so fantastic they gave the story the umph that the book deserved and added to the confined feelings of the book!

This audiobook would be perfect for people that like:
✨Multiple POVs
✨Cramped and Claustrophobic Feeling Thrillers
✨The Dark Side/Behind the Scenes of Tropical Resort Locations
✨Scuba Diving /Deep Open Water Activities

This book was so engrossing and fast paced my heart felt like it was jumping out of my chest numerous times!!! From beginning to end I was hooked. I loved that it didn’t show the GLITZ AND GLAMOUR side of LA that are so often shown in books but also spotlighted the not so nice parts that need reform (ie the homelessness, mental health crises, and substance abuse issues that plague the city, that they have more than enough money to tackle but choose to put towards other means)! The whole book (and the rest of the books in the series) totally lends itself to a Netflix or other streaming platform show!!! SOOO SOOO OUTRAGEOUSLY GOOD!

If you like crime/court procedurals with a some real social issues thrown in this book would be PERFECT for you!

DNF at 50%…first DNF of 2024, but we’ll start with the bad first.

I really didn’t care the narrators of this book as they were totally not the voices that I was expecting for these characters/they didn’t give “body” to the characters in my opinion and the felt like they were reading a mundane report not a enemies to lover romcom. All that being said that didn’t really even factor into my rating because it was my fault not listening to a sample before requesting on NetGalley. My one big gripe is that I never really felt like they were truly enemies ever…and if they were it’s wild at 30 to be “rivals” with someone from HIGH SCHOOL🙃.

On a more positive note my favorite part, and the only saving grace of this book for me was trying to figure out what IRL companies were being parodied in the books ie “Rainforest” was Amazon.

I think this book had potential but it just really wasn’t for me in the end!
