"The dragon tilted her head. Her scales were dappled with darker green leaf shapes, like the shadows of long oval leaves. Her eyes looked like they were smiling. Her whole face was doing a weird crinkly sparkly thing that made Sundew's face want to do the same thing. Crinkling and sparkling! What kind of weird brain magic was this?"

"Viv read until the wee hours, until she couldn't keep her eyes open and her jaw creaked in an enormous yawn. Then she lay with the book facedown and open across her chest as the sounds of the storm crossed over the boundaries of sleep and colonized her dreams. Swords flashed on the foredeck of a frigate lashed with rain under a bruised sky. The keening of the wind twinned in her slumber, and Viv voyaged through seas unknown."

"Renee hears the blood throbbing in her eardrums and feels like she is leaving her body, like she is becoming one of the nameless viewers watching this scene from a distance, both temporal and physical. As the other voices escalate around her, Renee realizes that none of this means anything. She knew that it was silly before, but now she feels the inconsequentiality of it deeply, at a bone level. It's all just white noise, building to a dull roar that grows in volume until Renee can swear it's coming from the trees."

Patricia Wants to Cuddle was a bloody fabulous, wickedly fun summer horror read!

"--he's a boy again, trapped between the bite of his grandmother's words and the lash of his father's belt. Wrong, wrong, seeping out of him like poisoned blood, staining the people around him. His mother's hands covered with it, shoving him under the river's flow to wash him clean, following behind to make sure he stays. He doesn't stay. Nature rejects him, spits him back to atone. Cursed child, stained, despised gutter cat."

I've said it before and I'll say it eleventy billion times again -- I love when an author includes a Story So Far and believe every series should have one!

This series is bloody lush!
