"Geographically widespread, temporally diffuse disasters are emergent phenomena. They lack the clarity of the singular event that happens all at once and right out in the open, spectacular and undeniable. People wonder and doubt. People conspiratorialize. Hoax, a lot of people said. Or fake news or false flag, and many of them continued to use those words even as people they personally knew went insane and destroyed the people around them and destroyed themselves."

Many thanks to Tor Nightfire for sending me a copy of this debut horror novella by Sunny Moraine!

Your Shadow Half Remains is out TOMORROW!

It's a post-apocalyptic story that will inevitably get compared to Bird Box, which I don't think is exactly fair (since I loathed the book 😆), whereas this I dug a lot! Your Shadow Half Remains is about a disease that gives you the murderous rage to kill everyone around you (as well as yourself) once eye contact is made. This results in not only never being able to look another person in the eye again but living secluded from others as well.

For the past two years, Riley has lived in her grandparents home where they unalived each other. She's isolated on a lake and hasn't seen another human since. When Ellis moves into the neighborhood, Riley starts to let her guard down. Humans have an innate desire for connection, after all.

Your Shadow Half Remains was TENSE AF! The growing psychological tension, haunting atmosphere, the oppressive-claustrophobia-while-alone vibes, not to mention a sense of dread that's eerily relevant to our current pandemic...

I can't wait to see what Sunny Moraine writes next!

"Maybe the people who help us most in life recognize a missing piece of themselves in us, something that has to be protected...or else they'll never be whole again."

"Underwater, Webs couldn't hear the screams of dying dragons.

Underwater, the battle was as far away as the three moons. Fire couldn't touch him. Talons couldn't scar him. The blood washed away from his claws.

Underwater, he was safe."
