This book made me so angry. The characters were well written, morally ambiguous. This almost read like historical fiction were it not for the magical elements. Which is equally horrifying. The plot was very well done and the twist got me good. I was engaged and on the edge of my seat for the majority of the novel. Highly recommend.

This book was very straightforward and what you’d expect in a book from this author. While not a book that is overly memorable for me, it was an enjoyable read and I think the author does a great job of getting you invested in her characters. The mother generated a very visceral response from me that will certainly stick with me.

This was such a fun book to end the year on. I’m so glad I was able to sneak this one in because the cozy vibes were immaculate! I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and the immersive world building, even though it was very small scope. I think the writing was great and I truly enjoyed myself.

Wow. This was a rollercoaster. The storyline was engaging and horrific in a good way..? Like it’s so bad but it was written well and the horrifying aspect is exactly what you need in this kind of novel.

The social commentary was solid. I won’t spoil the ending but I will say I was very happy with it - quite satisfying after everything you go through to get there.

Miscommunication galore, which is not my favorite. The characters felt a little flat for me. Great diversity, and we love some chronic illness representation. I appreciate that it was brought up several times and wasn’t pushed to the wayside or used as a crutch for the storyline. This was fine but I was wanting something… more from our characters.

Straightforward enemies to lovers romance novel. The sprinkle of fantasy with the curse breaker dynamic was fun. I’m definitely preferential to fantasy because I was wanting more of that part of the storyline 😅. The spicy scenes were solid. Enjoyable read but not particularly memorable.

The writing was beautiful but for some reason this book just wasn’t quite hitting for me. I think it was our main character and the current day storyline that felt lackluster to me. I was much more engaged and interested in the storyline from the past. I was also expecting more involvement with the djinn.

I really love this author but this one let me down a bit. I’m not one to usually read holiday romances but I wanted to check this one out for my love of the author. 🎄 Taking out my minimal interest in the cliche holiday fanfare - I just didn’t really care for our love interests all that much. I didn’t find myself rooting for them as partners. I actually found myself more interested in the side characters. There were still enjoyable parts and I like the author’s writing style so it’s not a total bust. Just not my cup of tea ☕️.
