The slow progression of madness. The struggle of living with someone with you love with alcoholism. Probably one of Kong’s best books!
Sometimes I felt the chapters were too short and quick, but overall I really loved this book! I love Emoni’s character and how she grows through the book.
Wow. This really changed my perspective of things and is making me rethink. I am so glad that Gyasi told these stories through generations. Would recommend reading this book. It’s not difficult to read and once I started the next person’s journey I felt like I couldn’t put it down.
I read this in two sittings. Honestly Ben and Arthur got me feeling ALL the feels. 100% would recommend
At first I thought that I really - really - didn't like the first half of the book, but then I realized it was Eleanor I didn't like. Eleanor lacks proper social skills and doesn't understand social ques. How she talked to and responded to people went against everything inside of me. Often times I was gasping at her reactions or internally saying things like "oh my goodness!", or "no!!!".
As the book went on, I realized that Eleanor's lack of social skills was rooted in her childhood and from her mother. Once I hit the "Bad Days" section of the book I couldn't put it down. I cried with Eleanor through her therapy sessions and felt sympathetic towards her. I also loved how Raymond, Raymond's mother, and Sammy shaped Eleanor and benefited her mental health.
Thanks Gail Honeyman for hitting me with the feels AND surprising me with a book I thought I wouldn't like, but ended up loving.

*4.5. I really enjoyed this book. I enjoyed the magic. I enjoyed the story. What I really enjoyed was the epilogue.
Autopsy of Room Four and The Little Sisters of Eluria were my favorite.
