Out There Screaming: An Anthology of New Black Horror by Jordan Peele, John Joseph Adams

Decided to DNF after it taking me weeks to read 50% of the book.
I thought most of the stories were bad. To the point I was left wondering the point of them.
There were some that I liked such as Rebecca Roanhorse's. But they were all pretty light on the horror, I think.

Marked down because of the use of mental health as part of the conclusion and final reveal. Bit of a genre stereotype. Not the most egregious use but I would have preferred it didn't factor at all.
Also, as much as I did enjoy the book, and I did, it was pretty clear in places that it was written by a man of a certain age. Namely through the descriptions of mainly the female characters (no "breasting boobily" or anything like that, but I felt their descriptions were almost always needlessly unflattering).

I wanted more from this book. Although I know its a cozy, for a closed circle mystery, I didn't think this was tense enough. It was also fairly predictable on the one hand but with one aspect of the reveal being, I felt, a little out of pocket.
I still enjoyed it but just not as much as the last.

I'm not sure who or what this book was for. The last 50 or so pages were a slog. Overall feeling was one of boredom.
