A look into the life of a southern slave written by her. She went through amazing trials in order to become free and escape slavery. I definitely learned some things that I didn't know before.
I recommend this to everybody that wants to learn what slave life was like. I'm glad we've at least abolished legalized slavery, but we still have a long way to go!

There were some parts that I found dragged on, but others that were quite exciting. The author does his best to not be dry and most times, he is successful.
The first half is pretty much the history of scientific discovery and how we learned what we know. The second half is all about life - starting from the smallest and simplest (protists) working its way up to humans.
I think the author did a good job covering so much material and making it mostly engaging for the general public.
Unfortunately, the book is getting old. I would like to have read a more recent edition that includes recent discoveries, sadly, such an edition doesn't exist

While fictional, this book is a good look into issues that are plaguing many communities and our country. Racism is a central player.
The overall story moves quickly and is easy to follow. The book reads very quickly.
It is classified as "young adult", maybe I'm out of touch, but there are quite a few things that I wouldn't label as "young adult", but rather just plain "adult".

I was disappointed by this book.
It is obvious that Walter Isaacson cares most about Leonardo as a painter. His scientific, incentive, and curiosity driven endeavors are largely ignored. I really wanted to hear more about his engineering, inventions, and time as the leader of the Ninja Turtles (ok ok, I'm joking on the last one, or am I?)
Probably 70 percent of this book is critiques of his paintings. Isaacson seems to consider himself an authority on fine art, as often it is his own thoughts and insights he shares, rather than quoting others who have dedicated their lives to the art of Leonardo.
Overall he is most well known as a painter, but he had so many other interesting parts to his life that get very little attention, almost to where it seemed like the others were only included only to help us appreciate is painting more, so it left me disappointed. If you love art, this book will be great.

This is a great book. It is inspirational, educational and uplifting. It will expose people to the great poverty and upheaval that many in the world face. It teaches the power of education, and how one person can change the life of others

Just average for the frontiers saga. Had it been as bad as sanctuary, I would be done with this series, but I'll check out the next one when it comes out.
My worry is that ideas are starting to be recycled. Hopefully the books become fresh again

I understand you can always make yourself seem right in a memoir, but he seems like someone who can be trusted.
A lot of this book is about his career as a district attorney and cares he was involved it. He makes good arguments for why he handled the whole email thing without being too long winded.
The part about Trump was kinda creepy, but didn't go into nearly enough detail for my taste - the may be a lot of stuff he can't or doesn't feel like he should comment on

This book discusses our current technology and overall situation, then tries to project the future.
Typically I'm a non fiction guy, but I liked the fiction part of this book so much more.
This presents some intriguing ideas on colonizing the solar system and where the authors feel the best place to go would be - and they make a strong case.
I really wish the fictional part was longer and more in depth. Surprisingly to me, i could have done without the non fiction parts.
Covering the non fiction was pretty much what you'll find in any space exploration book. Sadly, even though the book is only a few years old, it's already fairly out of date.
I would love to see a tv series about the Titanic colonists!

This is a very interesting book. When I was in college I took psychology 101 in which one of the professors from neurology lectured for one month. This book is basically that - an introductory college level course.
I listened to it at too fast of a speed to really internalize the book, but I enjoyed learning about the different case studies and how (we think) the brain works. While it's college level material, it's presented in a way that anybody could understand it.

This amazing book is filled with inspiring accounts, both from the civil war and modern eras, of slavery and rescues from slavery.
I would encourage anybody to read this as there is much to be gained by learning about these harrowing true stories.
Slavery is not a thing of the past, it is just as alive and disgusting as it was back in the 1800s - much worse actually when speaking in terms of numbers.
I just finished this for my second time. It is a fast read, but has heart breaking true stories in it. Don't turn away because you think it would be too hard to read the stories. We must know of terrible things in order to combat them!
