I found this books slow and hard to relate to in the beginning, it really felt like everything exciting happened near the end. The Kings Favoured honestly doesn't sound like a position anyone wouldn't want to be in, and after reading I do understand why she is kept safely behind gilded bars however it's still the least appealing idea.
King Midas has not regard for anyone's feelings but his own, and given his position i do think that was a mistake. I am planning to continue the series, and I am desperately hoping all the world building is worth it.
There's potential here.

Lia is a chef at a popular restaurant, that is until the new owner pushes her one too many times and she finds herself in Scotland. Now Lia has to decide if she wants the Golden Retriever man, and the responsibility of protecting Loch Mirren from the murderous kelpies.
Romance, hot men in kilts, kitchen witches? What more can you as for? I absolutely LOVED this romantic comedy book. Lia is so independent it's sometimes infuriating, but Munroe makes up for it with his BIG golden retriever energy. The magic system is unique and interesting. It was a little bit too slow burn for my taste but otherwise I absolutely loved it. If I could describe this book as a feeling it would be sitting down to watch a hallmark movie while it snows and the fire burns.
