Books set during World War II are pretty popular amongst the readers I've worked with, and many center around the Holocaust. I enjoyed this story that portrayed a lesser-known conflict within the larger context of that war -- the narratives we don't read about quite as often. To see the complicated relationships between Poland, Ukraine, and Russia as it relates to World War II was interesting. And despite the romance (I do like romance, but it felt like a vehicle for character motivation), I was really engaged in the story.
