Hunger: A Memoir of (My) Body by Roxane Gay

3.0

The shining parts of this book are when she reflects back on her childhood and the terrible circumstances in her life, as well as how she manoeuvres through life now. However, the book falters when Gay is on her soapbox on issues surrounding heavy weight. Though they are accurate, she never gets past the surface level of these problems and parlays information that a lot of readers would know (such as how the participants of the biggest loser gain their weight back due to slowed metabolism). If she chose one issue to delve into as a companion to her memoir sections, it would be a stronger piece.
