i don’t know how many emotions i went through while reading this book. mad. fear. disgust. sad. but mostly angry. my heart broke for gina & the kids; the pain she went through & how she had no control really even when she thought she had it. the twists caught me by surprise & when i thought i knew something - i was wrong. i cant wait to continue on to the next in the series.

bitterfckingsweet 😭 the hollow boys series has been one of my favorite series to binge on & forget about all responsibilities. i know this is the last in line & i can’t help but be sad cause i know i’ll miss them. while thatcher & lyra are still my favorite, silas & caroline’s story hit a soft spot for me. we finally get to learn more about our favorite brooding & silent silas, while also getting a badass fmc: caroline. there were times she annoyed me but i really enjoyed the backbone she had. monty jay knows how to write a plot & keep it going 5 books deep without losing the readers’ attention. i live for the plot (& of course the boys) & was deeply invested since the lies we steal. the slow was really burning (about 65%) but once we got to it, it was so rewarding! seeing the love unfold between both main characters was beautiful & the closure?! i didnt realize i needed the closure we received towards the end but it was definitely needed. while this gen comes to an end, i cannot wait for the next gen: the river styx heathens!!

i have so much to say yet can’t find the right words to explain it. my very first historical romance/mystery & certainly not my last. while the book is consider religious (christian fiction), the author did an amazing job at making it subtle that its barely noticeable. the words flowed beautifully across the pages & sooo much emotions packed into this read. its not super big on the mystery & romance (more on plot) & i had quite a few angst moments. the plot kept me intrigued to keep going. the truth to the unanswered questions of lady jayne (& everything else that followed) did break my heart in two for aurelie but it played out beautifully in the end. the miscommunication was BIG in this book & i was upset that everyone was just beating around the bush 😭 other then that, i highly recommend this to anyone who wants to dip their toes in historical fiction. this won’t be my last read from Joanna & i look forward to picking up her other books.

s. everest is one of my favorite indie authors that i accidentally stumbled upon on booksirens. the duet is one of my favorite “hidden” gem reads. i will always recommend this duet when others are asking for paranormal reccs. i was invested since book #1 & was happy that book #2’s release wasn’t far behind. its one of those duet’s where you lose all sense of time because you’re so intrigued in the story. one moment you’re starting the book & the next thing you know, you’re finished & its 5AM. most of the time, duets usually feel long & prolonged but s. everest did an amazing job. its perfectly written, the plot, the angst, the characters - it all falls together. i do warn though, if you’re a visual reader - the fallout was creepy but the first blood was even creepier! i had mad chills reading the first blood. i also really enjoyed how descriptive the author is, easily painting the story in my head & feeling every word on the page. the spice was also perfect, not overwhelming & just enough. while it’s not really a HEA, i was very satisfied with how the duet ended. s. everest definitely got creative with the characters & overall aspect of the book. there are triggers & certain views that may trigger/offend others so heed them before diving in. if you love paranormal romance, demons, & revenge plot the duet is a must add to your october/spooky reads! I received an advance copy for free, and I’m leaving this review voluntarily.

witches & vampires? badass fmc’s? cute & over protective familiars? villains we hate to love? revenge plot? destroy & burn the world for him? (notice I said HIM? yeah - our fmc is a little unhinged ✨).
as one of the witches in the five families, Astrea Mori is being held as a prisoner by the vampire lord after he destroys the entire lineage. spending years of being tortured & experimented on, her only escape? Was to make a deal with the devil. her devil to be exact. Ciaran Helvig. viking vampire. the vampire lord’s son but is willing to do whatever he can to protect Astrea, even if it means destroying the empire his father built. while they learn to navigate between their power & love, the story unravels into a more darker truth. the story is told in dual timelines with multiple POV’s, but you don’t even notice because the author did such an amazing job flowing it all together, giving us insight we need without it being too overwhelming. not to mention, the support characters - I fell in love with ALL of them (especially shadow & ava) & even one of the villains. oh and the spice? was SPICING. you know the saying “all good things must come to an end”? i definitely didn’t want the book to end & wanted to savor every page. spells are casted, secrets are revealed, blood is spilled, so whats left? i don’t know, you’ll have to read to find out! as always make sure to heed cw/tws before diving into this dark paranormal romance 🖤

as a person who is fairly new to the fantasy world, holy shit. I have so many thoughts & I’m still trying to grasp all my feelings after finishing this book. I’ve dabble a little in greek mythology (just the basics) but nothing could prepare me for this read. I really enjoyed it & was able to dive deeper thanks to this book (who knew there was a lord/goddess of nightmare)! I was transported into a whole nother world with dawn’s story telling. overall the aspect of the book, the plot/characters can get a little confusing. tbh, I was a bit lost & ended up reaching out to the author to clarify but all I can say now without spoiling is… embrace the chaoticness of this book because it was all on purpose & most of the questions you have will be answered as the story unravels. as you get lost in the mmc’s POV, Brooks hears & talks to the voices inside his head, all the while stuck in an insane asylum trying to navigate the truth to his backstory - you’ll start second-guessing whats truly real or imaginary as you follow along his story. there’s also two badass FC’s, a siren whose being held captive but comes to find comfort in Brooks during her worst nightmares and Lytta whose desperate to guide Brooks out of his nightmares. I had so many theories while reading just for it to be twisted. The ending left me in shambles & I cannot wait for book 2!

i’ve been seeing this book recommended everywhere and i needed a short break from my usual reads of dark romance with something fast/smutty & decided to pick it this up. i havent picked up a pnr book for a while now.. & this book reminded me of how much i’ve missed/loved reading it! we all love a shadow daddy 😌 and of course, if death is a character, say less and count me in. the writing was captivating and easy to follow. there isn’t really a plot because the story is more focused on the characters. while my heart broke for lilith & her struggles, seeing her character development was beautiful. i also loved that death was patience with her! the smut wasn’t overwhelming & was the cherry on top. if you’re looking for a date with death, that’s fast and smutty, i highly recommend this read!

this was as interesting as a horror story can get.. it was unique & different. while its mentioned that its a funny horror, i didnt find the story in any way funny? the story wasn’t bad & it was entertaining.
