If you’re looking for a love story, this is not the right book but if you’re looking for a dark, between the lines of love/hate, & extra spicy read then look no further! I give this a 2.5 stars (rounded for review). Honestly for me, the writing was a little bit off. The plot was interesting but the spice was what kept me going. Its a fast paced read with little background/character development & 65% smut. Andrei definitely has issues the way he shows Cerise that he wants/love her. I thought at some point it would get a little romantic between the two but it didn’t at all. If anything it felt like it was all lust then love to be honest; he treated her like straight property. While it is one of those “touch her & you die” type read, I felt like the author could have added a little more emotion between the two instead of having them angry & horny 24/7! It may not be my cup of tea but it could be someone else’s :) I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
The read wasn’t bad but it was also not one of my favorite reads this year. I do love that the FMC is a feisty plus-sized heroine! The MMC is a russian pakhan who falls first & is overly possessive of his Sophia. Maxim is a grumpy pakhan but around Sophia, she becomes his light to darkness. I do feel like there was a lot of plot holes and the setting jumps around a lot, but there is a whole lot of spice to make up for it. I think the most exciting part of the story was when her ex, Luca shows up and how he plays into the story. The story does leaves on a cliff hanger that got me a pretty curious to find out what happens next. If your cup of tea is fast pace, insta-love mafia romance, then i highly recommend it!
While this book was apart of a series of 7, the author mentioned it could still be read as a stand alone. I decided to pick this one up first because of booktok & I was hooked. Going through the reviews, many had mentioned that this book was the weakest out of all but I very much enjoyed Milene & Salvatore’s story! I’m excited to read the rest in the series since they’re supposedly better. Its one of those “touch her & you’re die” type of story. From most of the mafia romances I’ve come across - the FMC is usually an ordinary girl that the don goes after so it was refreshing that the FMC was a mafia princess herself. I liked that because she wasn’t new to the mafia world & seemed more mature & understanding rather then naive/overly emotional/irrational. While the marriage was force, it didn’t feel as force/arrange. Their chemistry was to die for even though both had issues of their own to work through. The build up of their relationship was well written. The writing overall was solid, no overwhelming scenes of spice & just enough of violence. There were also comedic moments too! Overall I truly enjoyed it & cant wait to read all of the books in the series.
After finishing book 5 (stolen touches) of Neva’s perfectly imperfect series & being totally hooked; I decided to go back and start from book 1. I’m sort of glad I picked up book 5 first instead of 1 because I don’t think I would have continue the series. Although, I love Nina & Roman’s relationship, their story was best describe to me as “cute” (in other words, the story was light for a mafia romance & more of a love story). Maybe I’m too used to the darker side of mafia romance. There are some violence & mafia environment but the book mostly focuses on the development of their relationship. So far I really do like how Neva portrays / write her FMCs. Book 5, the FMC was already a mafia princess so she understood the mafia world so I was afraid in book 1 since the FMC wasn’t apart of that world she would be annoying (like most of the FMC I read in mafia romance) but turns out she was the complete opposite. She was mature, didn’t act irrationally, had reasonable attitude, and accepted things she couldn’t change & rolled with it. While some parts she was irrational, but I felt like they were for good reasons. Pretty much Nina was very calm agreeing to the arranged marriage. Also I was expecting at least a level 3 of spice but there actually wasn’t enough. Probably a level 1 at most. If you’re new to the world of mafia romance, this book is a good place to start. Its not too dark & eases you into the mafia world!
I read in someone’s review that Neva’s book are addicting & I second that! After finishing book 5 (stolen touches) I decided to start from the beginning of series. Book 1 (painted scars) was a little disappointing but broken whispers made up for it. I really enjoyed the relationship development between Mikhail & Bianca. It was also nice seeing Roman & Nina enter the story every now & then too! Its safe to say, the Scardoni sisters are my favorite so far in this series. I’ve noticed in the series, Neva includes a diversity of characters in terms of having some sort of disability whether its mental/physical/others. Even though all the MCs have a disability, they’re no different & thriving with everyone else. Again, Neva’s FMCs are wonderfully written: mature, reasonable, and strong. I have yet to find any annoying or dislikable characters in this series! If you’re a person of attention to detail, I find it important to read the series in order (even though they can be read as stand alone) because most of the side characters are carried on to the next book. I found myself going back & forth, trying to remember who came from what side of the mafia, or who was who/whose connected to who & where they stand. Like Neva suggested, in order for full enjoyment read them in order. I’ve come to the conclusion that these mafia MMC’s are all one big giant teddy bear in the inside! On to the next!
coming to an almost end of the perfectly imperfect series, fractured souls - as the name itself literally fractured my soul
Saw this on booktok & was intrigued to put on my TBR. I’m in my mafia-romance era & was looking for something not too heavy. This book was perfect! While it is a slow burn, I felt that it was a little too slow for my liking but the build up had a lot of tension which made me continue to the end to get the satisfaction of Rory & Angelo finally being together. I really enjoy MMC mafia don’s like Angelo. Morally grey characters. Its not until 80% of the book do we finally get them together, but it was cut short with the ending. I wanted more of the dynamics of their relationship and even just a tad more of spice as well. It felt like it wasn’t enough! If you like tropes with forbidden romance, age-gap, mafia world, morally grey characters, touch her & you die - sinner’s anonymous is a perfect read!
I’m in my mafia-romance era & I can’t seem to decide which mafia side I like more - the Russians or the Italians! Neva makes it difficult and I just want the best of all worlds
when it comes to romance reads, i tend to like the fast-pace get-right-to-it & the main characters develop their relationships as the story unfolds but for some reason i wanted to savor every moment shared between dion & faye even if it was slow. i haven’t read any of the windsors series & i picked this one up on a whim. the way maura wrote, in my opinion, was perfect. usually i’ll find some flaw or cringy moments of how a story is written or what’s being said but i enjoyed every bit of this read! the only annoyance or rather i found funny was how much “she/he murmurs” there was
I’m halfway through the series! another W read. at this point l’m convinced Neva always delivers because this whole week I haven’t been able to put down her books or even want to take a break. The series continuously keeps me hook & wanting more of the next in the series. Also while I’m a reading girly, Neva gave us a sneak peak of the Hidden Truth’s audiobook… & I might just give in & listen to it cause it sounds VERY promising. The story of Sergei & Angelina was one hell of a ride. I was already intrigue with Sergei as a side character & always wondered what made him so unhinged. I loved the in-depth background Neva gave us on why he is the way he is. Sergei is probably my third favorite MMC (after Salvatore & Roman) in this series. He’s a little psycho (okay maybe a lot) but who doesn’t love crazy? I’m surprise with a series of 7 books, the stories aren’t repetitive; it’s different each time & all are interconnected without it being messy!
