This book is SO AWESOME. And the fact that Cassandra Claire participated in it made it even more awesome. The writing was great and the whole idea of magic school and mages and elementals and magic was really cool and I personally LOVE fantasy books about this topic. The whole atmosphere of the book was entertaining and alluring. Plus, the whole plot took my breath away. Like when I reached the main plot twist I had to read the scene several times to really get what happened inside my head😂There are some moments throughout the book where I just stare at the scene I'm reading for several moments then think "Wait, What? What the hell just happened?".I was surprised and didn't expect what happened at all and I guess THAT what truly made it a great book and what made me love it even more bc I love it when books surprise me. The friendship was heartwarming and so sweet. I just love everything about the book 😍❤️

2.5⭐️Well that was disappointing. I've never disliked main characters in a book even more lol. In the first book they were okay; I expected character development to the better. But they just receded backwards. The main characters: Sophie and Agatha; they are filled with doubt and confusion and betrayal and distrust, like they were supposed to be best friends who would choose each other over any prince and any one. But Sophie always betrayed Agatha and always used her. In the first book, Agatha was put in the school for Good while Sophie was put in the school for Evil but Sophie always believed that she was the good princess and Agatha was the evil witch. And when prince Tedros, who Sophie loved, started showing affection toward Agatha she called her a witch in HER FACE and tried to convince Tedros that she's Evil OVER AND OVER. And Agatha always seemed to act like she didn't hear and always forgave Sophie. She always believed Sophie's lies and always trusted her even though Sophie always betrayed her. Like wtf? Is she blind? Or deaf? Or mad? Or JUST SO STUPID. Let's move to Tedros, the useless and stupid prince. He's so stupid that everytime someone tells him a lie about Agatha or tries to pull them apart by making things he always blindly believed the lie and tried to hunt and kill her. Like what even oh my god he always doubted Agatha and he didn't trust her but always "loved" her. Is this love? Really? Is this what freaking love is? These characters are filled with doubt and distrust that no world can ever fit. Lol THIS is the reason why I always prefer villians over "heroes" lol these characters weren't even heroes they were just a stupid princess and an even stupider prince along with a wanna-be-princess Sophie who was always evil and a witch and tried to prove herself good but even the dead understand that she can never be more than a brat...that was a rant😂You may wonder why I kept going with the series. The answer is, without the characters, the story and the plot and the world created by the writer is really good and even I was captivated enough to want to continue and find what happens to the poor characters. And even with all those things that irritate me about it, I will NOT stop this series bc I am halfway through and it is so irritating to me to stop a series midway. BUT if I find the characters the same and the book not worthy of my time, I will DNF it immediately.
