I didn't know I would like this books so much which is crazy. I was expecting to go into this book and DNF it but since it is a 24 for 2024 I really wanted to read it. I'm well aware middle grade is not for me anymore however I still have a couple of middle grades to read. I personally did not like the nonsensical ness of the first book Furthermore. Which is why I thought I wouldn't like this one. I was completely wrong.
What I loved about this book is the concepts of the history of Laylee's job. I love she represents both the living and the dead. At the point of when the book starts she is overworked and underpaid. She is hated by her community and they don't see how important her job is. She slowly gets sick and starts to die due to their negligence. There were some dark parts also frustrating parts. Overall I'm happy I picked it as a 24 for 2024 book. Great way to start the year.
