content warnings listed at beginning of book which is great :)
i literally read this in three sittings, it's so good omg. slowburn-ish Muslim sapphic romance, i don't usually go for YA tbh but i loved this. kinda cheesy obviously but it's cute.
i actually learned a lot about South Asian culture and Islam too!

i really liked the writing style and the plot, and i cried over the deaths of two certain characters that i had formed a real attachment to.
i quite liked it overall, but there were some really unnecessary comments about character's weight and stuff? as if them being skinnier makes them better? and the descriptions of characters who weren't white just felt a bit off at times. plus it took me a while to get into it, although that's just a personal note. i also feel like i was way too excited to read this book because of the way booktok hyped it up and made it sound kinda different, so i ended up a little disappointed when i'd finished it.

i heard this book started the lesbian vampire trope and. oh my word. i was not disappointed. pretty much the entire thing is annotated i kid you not. and carmilla is very,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, forward with laura, shall we say,,,, ALSO HOW DID WE NOT FIND OUT THE NARRATOR'S NAME WAS LAURA UNTIL LIKE HALFWAY THROUGH THE BOOK. anyway, the ending was a little disappointing for me personally? it fell a bit flat, but that's my only critique really, still five stars :)))
