Make Room for Love has rekindled my love for contemporary romance. I loved seeing the sapphic domesticity play out throughout the story. No one does yearning like the sapphics.
This is a cozy fun read, but also holds a strong message about unionizing, burn out, grief and mental health.
My only problem with this book and why it’s not a five star book is the characters. Mira was held up to an incredible standard and she was a perfect person. However, when she lashed out at Isabel, it was seen as reasonable and Isabel was the one in the wrong. I hated that. Isabel’s character had a great depth and growth throughout the story. She was not a perfect character, she had her flaws and was able to learn to be a better person and partner as the story progressed. With Mira the problem was that there was nowhere for her to go. She could do no wrong and this lead to Isabel being sort of the antagonist at times, and I don’t think that was the intention.
This does not mean I did not enjoy Mira! I believe she was a wonderful person and a supportive partner. It’s just that it stayed that way. She didn’t grow and change or develop throughout because she was already at that stage from page one.
