Gone to See the River Man by Kristopher Triana

I really enjoyed this story. It was creepy and messed up and fast paced because it was short. I was genuinely spooked by a lot of the descriptions. Very well written and overall a great read!

This was a weird read. It was a creepy and strange fantasy tale of revenge, where some parts worked for me and some didn't. Overall I didn't hate it, the concept was interesting enough, it was just "meh"

This story never slows down, even for a second. Immediately I felt anxious for Oliver and the situation he's in. The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is because of what felt like a seemingly random Hector reappearance - it didn't seem like he was really connected to anything besides Oliver's past. Other than that, this book was full of all kinds of twists and turns and kept me wondering what was going to happen at the end.

I loved this book so much! What a fun read for October! Reading it felt like watching Halloweentown or Hocus Pocus, but more adult

I was so looking forward to reading this because I've seen it recommended by so many people, but it just didn't do it for me.
What I liked about it:
The parts that were meant to be creepy, were pretty creepy. There was a lot gore and suspense, especially in the scenes where Marjorie, Dan, Laura, and Nick are all trapped inside the house.
What I didn't like about it:
There was not a whole lot of information about any of the characters, and especially the ones we were supposed to care about. There's very little background information, and I found myself not caring too much about what happened to them.
All of the characters in the family that lives in the cave don't have names, so that was hard to follow and distracting for me.
There were SO many typos on Carla's name. It felt like at least half the time her name was mentioned, it was spelled "Carta" instead. I don't mind a typo or 2, it's bound to happen. But on one page it was spelled wrong 6 times, and it was just so distracting.
Overall this felt more like it was written for shock value than story telling, and although I did like the creepier parts, the story altogether was not a fun read for me.

I wanted to like this book so badly. It was a decent enough read as far as keeping me interested, but I think that was mostly out of confusion. There was potential for this story to really go somewhere even weirder than it already did, but just as things were getting super wild, the book ended. No explanations or anything. Maybe that was a choice by the author to make it more open-ended, but I was just left confused by the lack of any resolution or explanation for what happened throughout the entire book.
Also Coomer really likes to use the word "pregnant" to describe things, and really wants the reader to know that the bourbon was 18 years old lol

I thought this book was a good read. It kept me interested and there were a lot of twists, just felt like it was missing something at the end.
