amazing book it was my fabvourite for a long time had to get another copy
i think if you really loved the glass castle and wanted to know what happened before, this book would be a fascinating read, since you really go in-depth into how her mom was raised. you'll find a lot of connections between how her mom raised her children and how her grandmother raised her mother. some things are also cleared with rex and rosemary's marriage and overall romance. the writing style was easy to digest per usual. her grandmother is a wonderful woman to be the topic of this book, and it was overall a good read. not as impactful as reading the glass castle was for me, but since i loved the glass castle so much this book was exciting to read as a fan.
i think i'll have to reread this book when i'm older to fully understand some of the themes.
4.25 rating
this book was a pretty impactful read for me, and given that i've never experienced loss in that way, this was very eye-opening to the stages of grief that someone might go through when losing someone. the characters were very loveable, real, and complex in their own ways, which i appreciated. this book gave a very realistic look at the nuances in relationships and also what happens when things aren't communicated properly between people involved in a relationship. also the overall idea of dealing with a loss of a close loved one. also gives a closer look into ocd, and how the condition can affect your daily life. one ick i had was i think this book touched on a lot of themes, maybe a little too many though. sometimes i wasn't sure where this book was supposed to veer, but you could also argue that the author did fairly well considering how complex it is to unpack grief in a story.

my first reread of a book in awhile :] i think this is my favourite romance book so far. ethan and olive are an amazing couple and this is such a great summer read. would definitely help you out of a reading slump.
this was my fave book 2 years ago so it obviously holds a special place in my heart regardless of my thoughts after this reread. it still gets a fairly high rating because this book helped me a lot at the time when i read this book, through some things i was going through. i do feel that the twist with aunt helen at the end was a little unnecessary? i'm not sure what the purpose of it was, cuz i'm sure the book would've been the same if that wasn't included. i don't know if this is because charlie's letters are supposed to be short and overall not some in-depth analysis of things, but i think that the aunt helen thing wasn't dealt with more mindfully, idk. i mean you could also argue that the point of his letters is to just give an overall summary of things happening in his life so it's not like he HAS to do any of that. overall, the characters in this book were so loveable jeez. patrick and charlie and sam really did it for me. i love how this book was written, and i think this book is definitely the most "coming of age" book of all "coming of age" books, which was probably why i loved it soo much 2 years ago. like it dealt with a lot of things normal teens go through, and the "normalcy" of how the characters acted/things that occured made this book very likeable for me. this book was rlly easy to get through and a good read overall. i'll always have some sort of connection to this book because it was my fave book of all time at one point in my life, and that's always gonna make my idea of this book more biased.
